A $3,147,390 settlement fund is available for patients who used Inova Health Care Services’ websites between April 29, 2022 and April 29, 2024, but the claim deadline is April 6, 2026, roughly three weeks away. No documentation is needed to file.
The lawsuit at the center of this case is Lugo v.
Inova Health Care Services, filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Plaintiffs alleged that Inova embedded tracking pixels from Facebook and Google on its public-facing websites, which collected and transmitted patients’ Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI) to third parties without authorization.
The complaint cited violations of the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA). Inova denies any wrongdoing and disputes that the information collected qualifies as protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
To sidestep the cost and unpredictability of a trial, both sides agreed to a $3,147,390.04 settlement fund. Inova will also implement remedial measures designed to bring its pixel tracking practices into compliance with the ECPA and HIPAA going forward.
The case (Case No. 1:24-cv-00700-PTG-WEF, United States District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division) is still pending final court approval.
Claims must be submitted by April 6, 2026, which is approximately 22 days from today.
The opt-out and objection deadlines have already passed (February 27, 2026). A final approval hearing is scheduled for April 16, 2026.
Do not pay anyone to file a claim for you. The claims process is generally free, and any service charging a fee to submit your claim is taking money you could keep.
You could qualify for a settlement payment if the following applies to you:
The class action is open nationwide. There are no state-specific restrictions on who can file.
No proof of purchase is required to file a claim. You won’t need receipts, medical records, or any other documentation to submit.
You can verify your settlement eligibility and see the full requirements on the Inova Health Care Services Class Action Settlement page.
Submitting a claim doesn’t guarantee a payment. The settlement administrator reviews each submission for eligibility, and claims that don’t meet the requirements may be rejected.
Payments from class action settlements typically take several months to a year after the filing deadline closes. Every approved claim must be verified before distributions go out.
Most class action settlements are subject to court approval (Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23). Until a judge grants final approval, the terms described here reflect the proposed agreement and could still be modified.
There are currently 35 open settlements listed on The Class Action Lawsuit with deadlines in the next 30 days. Staying on top of these deadlines is key — once they pass, you lose your chance to file.
Privacy settlements account for 12% of open cases listed on The Class Action Lawsuit (6 of 51).
Data breach class action settlements often come with credit monitoring in addition to cash payments. Even if the settlement payout amount is small, the monitoring service alone can be worth hundreds of dollars per year.
Inova Health Care Services is funding a $3,147,390 cash settlement. Each approved claimant receives a pro rata share of the net fund, meaning your individual payout depends on both your claim type and how many valid claims are submitted total.
Before any money reaches claimants, court-approved deductions come out first: attorney fees of up to 33% of the settlement fund plus litigation costs (FRCP Rule 23(h)), notice and administration expenses, and a class representative service award of up to $5,000. What remains is the net fund distributed to approved claimants.
For the full payout breakdown, see the Inova Health Care Services settlement page.
There are two ways to file. Online, visit the official settlement claim form at www.HealthPixelSettlement.com and complete the form there. By mail, print a paper claim form and send it to:

The online claim form is short. Since no proof of purchase is required, you won’t need to gather any documents beforehand. Most people can complete the form in a few minutes.
Many data breach and privacy settlements include credit monitoring alongside any cash payment. Check the official settlement notice for specifics on what this agreement offers beyond direct payouts.
Missing the April 6, 2026 deadline means forfeiting your right to receive any payment from this case. Courts don’t typically grant extensions for individual claimants, so filing before the cutoff is the only way to preserve your claim.
