Privacy Settlement Class members receive 1 point. Your share is calculated based on your points relative to the total points across all valid claims. Background of the Lawsuit

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California as In re Google Assistant Privacy Litigation, No. 4:19-cv-04286, this case alleges that Google Assistant can activate and record conversations without the user ever saying a wake word like “OK Google” or “Hey Google.” Plaintiffs call these incidents “False Accepts” and claim Google used the resulting audio recordings to improve its speech recognition technology. They argue this violated users’ privacy rights and breached Google’s own Privacy Policy.

Google denied all allegations and maintained it did nothing improper or unlawful. No court ruled on the merits. Both sides agreed to settle to avoid the uncertainty and expense of a trial. The proposed $68 million Settlement Fund will be distributed to eligible class members who submit valid claims, with any remaining funds going to a court-approved nonprofit rather than back to Google.

The case covers two groups: people who purchased Google-made devices and people whose communications were captured through a False Accept, during the period May 18, 2016 through March 19, 2026. The court has scheduled a Final Approval Hearing for October 1, 2026. For more information, visit the official settlement website.
