What is Net Settlement Fund / Net Settlement Amount?

Class action glossary term

Short Definition

The money left for class payments/benefits after court-approved deductions (fees, expenses, administration costs, etc.).

What It Means

Most settlements distinguish between the gross amount and the net amount. The net settlement fund is what remains after deductions approved by the court. Settlement documents often list each deduction category and then define what’s left as the β€œNet Settlement Amount/Fund” used for payments.

Example

Example: $10M gross βˆ’ $2.5M fees βˆ’ $0.5M admin βˆ’ $0.1M service awards = $6.9M net for class payments (illustrative).

Why It Matters

Your payment is almost always calculated from the net fund, not the headline gross number.
