To get paid from the Westlake Financial Services settlement:
Claimants must attest that they paid a convenience fee to ACI Payments, Inc. between June 20, 2022, and August 18, 2025. No independent proof of purchase is required to file a claim.
Westlake Financial Services settlement payments are variable and will be determined by the number of valid claims submitted. The net settlement fund, after administration costs, attorney fees, and the class representative service award, will be divided equally among all class members who file valid claim forms on a per capita, per account basis. Payment can be received by paper check, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or Westlake account credit. If funds remain after the initial distribution, a secondary distribution to valid claimants may occur if economically feasible. Settlement payments may be taxable; consult a tax professional for advice specific to your situation.
A class action lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California (Case No. 2:23-cv-6386) alleges that Westlake Services, LLC d/b/a Westlake Financial Services violated California debt collection laws by charging borrowers convenience fees when they used certain payment methods to make payments on their Westlake accounts through ACI Payments, Inc. The lawsuit covers fees charged between June 20, 2022, and August 18, 2025. Westlake denies any and all wrongdoing, and the court has not decided who is right.
Rather than continue the litigation, both sides agreed to a settlement. Westlake will establish a $1,200,000 settlement fund to pay class members who submit valid claims. The fund, after deducting administration costs, attorney fees of up to 25%, and a service award of up to $10,000 for the named plaintiff, will be distributed on a per capita basis to eligible claimants.
