In May 2015, Allan Candelore filed a class action lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Tinder, Inc., alleging that Tinder charged California consumers a higher price for Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold subscriptions based on their age. The lawsuit claimed Tinder’s age-based pricing violated California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act and Unfair Competition Law. On July 15, 2024, the Court certified the class and appointed Mr. Candelore as class representative.
Tinder denied the allegations and argued that class members must arbitrate their claims. On January 17, 2025, the Court denied Tinder’s motion to compel arbitration. While Tinder appealed that decision, both parties agreed to settle. On September 10, 2025, after mediation, the parties reached a settlement agreement for $60.5 million. Tinder maintains it did nothing wrong or violated any law.
