To get paid from the Cadence Bank settlement:
Claimants can receive $100 alternative cash payment without proof. For reimbursement of ordinary losses (up to $2,500) and extraordinary losses (up to $10,000), third-party documentation is required (e.g., bank statements, receipts, invoices). Lost time claims require attestation only (up to $100).
Cadence Bank settlement payments are between $100 and $12,500 depending on the type of claim you file. Class members can choose one of two paths: the straightforward option is a flat $100 alternative cash payment, which requires no documentation and is subject to pro rata adjustment based on how many people file. The higher-value option covers reimbursement of ordinary losses up to $2,500 (including up to $100 for lost time at $25/hour) and extraordinary losses up to $10,000, but both require supporting documentation. All class members can also claim two years of three-bureau credit monitoring and identity theft protection services at no cost, regardless of which payment option they choose. Payments will be distributed after the court grants final approval of the settlement, which is scheduled to be considered at the July 9, 2026 hearing. Payment options include PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or a mailed check.
Between May 28 and May 31, 2023, cybercriminals exploited a vulnerability in MOVEit Transfer, a third-party file transfer application used by Cadence Bank and many other organizations. The attackers gained unauthorized access to files containing the personal information of Cadence Bank customers. Cadence began notifying affected individuals on or about September 15, 2023.
A lawsuit filed in federal court in Massachusetts alleged that Cadence Bank was negligent in its data security practices, leaving customers’ personally identifying information exposed. The case, Pratt v. Cadence Bank, was consolidated into a larger multidistrict litigation covering MOVEit-related claims against multiple companies. Cadence Bank denies all allegations of wrongdoing and denies that the plaintiff would have prevailed at trial.
Rather than continue litigation, both sides agreed to a settlement of $5,250,000. For more information, visit the official settlement website. The deal covers Cadence Bank only. Claims against Progress Software Corporation, the company that licensed MOVEit Transfer, have not been resolved and remain ongoing.
