The lawsuit, Uzair, et al. v. Google LLC, was filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court alleging that Google failed to follow all disclosure requirements of California’s automatic renewal law when selling automatically-renewing subscriptions through the Google Play Store. The claims relate to subscriptions sold between May 30, 2014 and October 27, 2019.
Google denies all allegations of wrongdoing. Rather than proceed to trial, the parties agreed to settle to avoid the costs and uncertainty of litigation. The settlement provides a $5 million settlement fund to compensate class members with Google Play credits or electronic payments. For more information, visit the official settlement website.
