Background of the Lawsuit

On or about November 29, 2023, an unauthorized individual gained access to personal and health information of patients at Geisinger Health. The breach affected approximately 1,308,363 individuals across the United States. Plaintiffs filed a class action lawsuit asserting claims including negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, and unjust enrichment against Geisinger Health and Nuance Communications, Inc. (which provided software systems used by Geisinger).

Both Defendants denied all allegations and liability. Rather than proceed to trial, the parties negotiated a settlement to resolve the claims and provide compensation and credit monitoring services to affected individuals without further delay or uncertainty.

The Court preliminarily approved the settlement on November 18, 2025. A Final Approval Hearing is scheduled for March 16, 2026, to determine whether the settlement is fair, reasonable, and adequate.
