Background of the Lawsuit

The lawsuit alleged that Catholic Health System disclosed patients’ personally identifiable information to Meta (formerly Facebook) and other third parties without permission, in violation of state and federal statutes. This included allegations that tracking technologies were used to transmit patient data. Catholic Health System denies any wrongdoing and specifically denies that any tracking technologies were implemented in its patient portal or electronic medical record system.

Rather than proceed to trial, the parties agreed to settle. The settlement resolves all claims related to the alleged disclosure of patient information through tracking pixels and other technologies. Settlement Subclass 1 members (those who logged into MyChart) receive up to $20 cash payments, while Settlement Subclass 2 members receive 12 months of privacy monitoring through Dashlane Premium Plan. Catholic Health System also agrees to remove certain tracking technologies from its websites.
