Background of the Lawsuit
A data breach at Ward Transport & Logistics beginning on March 3, 2024 resulted in a well-known ransomware group accessing approximately 574 gigabytes of data from Ward’s information network. Class members allege that highly sensitive personal information (PII) was subsequently exposed on the dark web and assert that Ward was negligent in its data security practices.
The class action lawsuit, filed October 15, 2024, alleges negligence with regard to Ward’s data security practices. Ward Transport & Logistics denies all claims of wrongdoing and liability. The parties have agreed to settle all claims without any court determination of wrongdoing.
Under the settlement, eligible class members may receive identity theft protection services for two years with insurance coverage of at least $1,000,000, compensation for out-of-pocket losses up to $5,000, and a pro rata cash payment up to $100 from the remaining settlement fund.
